Campbell’s Soup is Mmmmmm… Good
The American Family Association is once again up in arms over another company's refusal to "stay neutral" (i.e. - openly discriminate against teh gayz) in the culture wars. It seems that Campbell's Soup has offended their delicate sensibilities by sponsoring last week's in Philadelphia. Working hard to bolster their ridiculous image, AFA Pennsylvania president, Diane Gramley, complains, "When I think of Campbell's Soup, I think of the Campbell's Soup kids with their advertisement that portrays a pro-family, a family-friendly company, which is what they want to portray to the public."
Topics discussed at the forum include marriage equality, same-sex adoption, and anti-bullying measures... which all sounds pretty damn "pro-family" and "family-friendly" to me. Unless, or course, you're a family of bigots.
The AFA is, as usual, dropping teasers about the possibility of a boycott and encouraging their rabid horde to contact Campbell's by and barking their godly disapproval. Might I suggest adding visiting the website yourselves and giving them a bit of kudos for supporting ALL families? I'm sure they'll appreciate a few kind words interrupting the chorus of hate.

I think the AFA just needs to pursue the logical conclusion and extend their boycott. Gay people eat, and so long as that behavior continues… the AFA should boycott not just a cheap soup company (who has GOT to know by now that this is free press for them) but all food.
Granted, an actual hunger strike would be intensely difficult, but I think it could achieve real results in making this world a little closer to heaven. And we could rewrite history just a bit… and claim they’d died protesting an actual humanitarian cause. Like religious oppression, sexual discrimination, or those convoluted user service agreements that ask you to give up your legal rights to demand what you actually paid money to receive.

I keep waiting for a prominent evangelical to declare all monetary commerce the Mark of the Beast, siting the utilization of mammon as a blatant statement of allegiance with a government that has rejected God, forcing all true believers ™ to retreat to small farming communities that survive on the barter system.

Seems a bit unlikely. Most of them get into the god-bothering business to farm money. And the ones who actually act on their beliefs to avoid money… can’t seem to buy any advertising for some odd reason. You’d need one to have a sudden change of heart.
Hmm. That… gives me an idea. I just need to find one with an obvious Phillip Marley… and get an acting troupe to run through a modified Christmas Carol… >:)

I’m a tad confused… Are you suggesting that Campbell’s deserves to be boycotted for supporting the Equality Forum and simply expressing your joy over the ease with which your bigotry can be expressed, or are you simply taking an unclear stand against processed food?
